Clark County Plumbing & Drain faced a critical storm drain failure in a new subdivision, where heavy rains had caused severe flooding. Partnering with the NuFlow support team, they supplied a trenchless pipe repair solution to restore the 12-inch drain quickly, avoiding road closures and costly delays for the builder.
In November 2023, Clark County Plumbing & Drain was approached by an excavation company facing a serious issue with a storm drain in a newly developed subdivision. Following the first major rainfall of the season, the new road transformed into a lake, and the overflow flooded an existing home on the block. The excavation company needed an urgent assessment to restore the storm drain without disrupting access to the subdivision, as the builder had warned of potential fines if road closures hindered construction. NuFlow Certified Contractor Clark County Plumbing & Drain was called in to perform a video inspection to locate the cause of the blockage in the 12-inch storm drain.
The inspection revealed a separated joint in the 12-inch corrugated pipe, allowing rocks to infiltrate the line and clog the drain. This obstruction not only impaired drainage but also threatened further flooding in the area. After diagnosing the issue, Clark County Plumbing & Drain immediately contacted the NuFlow Technologies support team to find a durable, trenchless pipe repair solution. With the NuFlow Technologies team’s guidance, a 12-inch double felt liner with a vinyl bladder was selected as the ideal solution for this complex situation. The trenchless system would allow them to repair the pipe without the need for excavation, which would have caused major road closures, halted construction and leading to fines from the builder. Additionally, the storm drain was buried 13 feet underground, making traditional excavation costly and challenging.
The project presented several unique obstacles, which required innovative approaches. First, the manholes were spaced 300 feet apart, making it difficult to navigate equipment through the pipe. Additionally, rock infiltration was persistent; despite extensive jetting and vacuuming, rocks continued to enter through the separated pipe joint. To remove the rocks and prepare the line for the liner installation, the team tried an unconventional approach, tying beach towels and mule tape to the jetting hose, which allowed them to dislodge the majority of rocks. Cold temperatures on installation day added further complexity, as mixing the epoxy in 28-degree weather was challenging. Although the weather made it difficult to achieve a consistent epoxy spread, it provided extra working time.
Despite the challenges, the team successfully inserted and inflated the liner, completing a seamless installation. The liner bladder removal went smoothly, thanks to careful planning and collaboration. The NuFlow trenchless pipe lining solution restored full functionality to the storm drain without requiring a road closure, meeting the builder’s demands for uninterrupted access to the subdivision. The excavation company was highly impressed with the product’s performance and the execution by Clark County Plumbing & Drain. Since this project, they have partnered with CCP&D on several smaller projects, a testament to the reliability and effectiveness of the trenchless sewer repair solution.
This project highlights the powerful advantages of NuFlow’s trenchless technology for emergency pipe repairs, especially in situations where excavation would be costly and disruptive. Through problem-solving and effective teamwork, Clark County Plumbing & Drain successfully delivered a lasting solution that protected the subdivision from future flooding while ensuring the builder’s construction schedule remained on track.
